About the project
SOS-Kinderdorf faced challenges in maintaining and increasing online donations amidst a competitive digital landscape. To address this, we embarked on a comprehensive redesign of their donation process, aiming to enhance user experience and streamline the donation journey.
The Challenge
With over 370 organizations competing for attention, SOS-Kinderdorf needed to stand out and make its complex donation system more accessible. The main challenge was to streamline a wide range of donation options, like one-time gifts, recurring donations, and sponsorships, without overwhelming users. At the same time, the experience had to meet the high expectations of a digitally savvy target group, mainly aged 18-54.
My role
As UI/UX Designer, I was responsible for the design of the new donation journey:
• Created wireframes and interactive prototypes for validation through user testing.
• Designed final UI screens, ensuring consistency with SOS-Kinderdorf’s visual identity.
• Integrated motion design to guide users intuitively through the donation steps.
• Worked closely with stakeholders and the development team to ensure smooth implementation.
Process
We started with user research to understand donor behavior and expectations. It became clear that the donation process needed to be simple, transparent, and emotionally engaging. We placed donation prompts within relevant content to encourage action at the right moments and streamlined the overall experience to reduce friction. A persistent donation bar ensured constant access, while clear communication about how funds are used helped build trust.

Outcome
The redesigned donation process led to:
• Successfully maintained the high donation levels achieved in previous years, despite a competitive and challenging fundraising environment.
• Achieved a 10% increase in donation completions during the campaign period.
• Positive feedback from users highlighted the ease and clarity of the new donation journey.
